In October 2016, Almine Rech Gallery will host an exhibition of historical artworks by Tom Wesselmann, inspired by the artist’s 1970 exhibition at Sidney Janis Gallery in New York. Wesselmann’s ‘Bedroom Tit Box’, a key performative work from the Janis exhibition, will be restaged in Paris for the first time. The work will be installed alongside seminal examples of Wesselmann’s post-collage works, making the exhibition at Almine Rech the most significant presentation of the artist’s work in Paris since his 1994 retrospective at the Fondation Cartier, and groundbreaking 1967 exhibition at Illeana Sonnabend Gallery.

This exhibition chronicles Pop art’s emergence as an international movement, migrating from the United Kingdom and the United States to western and eastern Europe, Latin America, and Japan.

David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition of collages by American artist Tom Wesselmann at the gallery’s London location. Organized in collaboration with The Estate of Tom Wesselmann, the exhibition will present over 30 works produced between 1959 and 1964—a significant period spanning the artist’s early career and his emergence as a leading figure of Pop Art.

Organized chronologically, this exhibition follows the development of Wesselmann’s work, series by series, from his most well-known series, the Great American Nude, to the Sunset Nudes of his late work.
